Kisha Barree

I worked at a healthcare company where I switched from Marketing to Education. Thanks to my managers and directors at the time, I was fortunate to make the switch. I went to a local college where I became certified in training and development.

I started as an eLearning specialist, learning about learning management systems, SCORM courses, and instructional design best practices. Then, I became an eLearning developer, developing product training in an AGILE environment. I moved into a broader role as a training developer, developing and updating courses for a telecom company. Over the years, I learned about education business, product development and product life cycles, access networking, wireless networking, and residential gateways (the little boxes your service provider installs in your house that give you Internet and Wi-Fi). I started my marketing career with a large industrial company. Later, I joined a 3D software company, which was sold a few months after I started working there. Due to the smaller size of the marketing departments in these companies, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks. These included handling promotions, SEO marketing, email marketing, creating videos and interactive web elements, as well as collaborating with marketing agencies.

I learned graphic and web design and how to code while in college. I spent nearly over 15 years freelancing outside of my day time job, taking on small jobs here and there. I still give advice to individuals and small businesses to this day.

I began my career in training when I worked for an aerospace company as a contractor in the training department. My role involved reviewing and editing PowerPoint presentations for instructor-led training sessions for pilots.

I gained experience in typesetting, color correction, and printing while working at a yearbook publishing company.

During my time in the Navy, I worked as a chaplain assistant. However, I found myself getting a little too creative with the church bulletins, which led to me working in the journalism department. It was here that I got an early start in military journalism, as I was tasked with updating announcements on closed-circuit television. This experience taught me how to use the right combination of colors and fonts for viewing announcements on a TV screen.

After leaving the Navy and becoming a civilian, I worked for a small mom-and-pop newspaper in South Dallas. The newspaper ran weekly and provided a fast-paced environment where I learned about page layout design, 4-color and grayscale press printing, sales and advertising, and press sources like AP News and Reuters.
